Bryan Northup is a California native now living in the Chicago area. He graduated from California College of the Arts in Oakland, California with a BFA in Fine Art Photography in 1998. In addition to his studio practice Bryan is the Assistant Director of the not-for-profit, community art organization, the Oak Park Art League, historic gallery and art school since 1921.

Bryan works in several media including cold and warm glass, painting, mixed media sculpture and photography. For much of his art career Bryan has focused on working with glass, from traditional stained glass and mosaics to experiments with recycled bottles, creating kiln-formed, functional tableware, lighting and sculptural works.

As an artist and environmentalist Bryan is interested in projects that bring attention to the tenuous balance between the natural world and ever increasing human consumption and destruction of those resources humans depend on. His latest work utilizes found plastics diverted from the waste stream to focus attention on the looming reality of a plastic filled ocean.
